Shiatsu is a relaxing therapeutic massage
from Japan that is based on over 4,000 years of Traditional
Chinese Medicine. Literally translated, it’s the Japanese
word meaning “finger pressure”. As a result it’s
often referred to as acupuncture without needles, or acupressure.
The intention of shiatsu is to relax your muscles and balance
your Qi (vital energy of life). You will feel relaxed as deep
tension is released from your body and your nervous system
reaches a parasympathetic mode. Its activation provides a
unifying experience of body, mind, spirit and environment.
Only once this is achieved will your body begin to heal and
rejuvenate itself.
Regular shiatsu treatments help to maintain your optimum
health by improving your circulation, strengthening your immune
system and reducing the symptoms of stress, anxiety and pain.
Shiatsu Therapists do not use oils during a treatment. Combining
acupressure with stretching, to achieve balance within your
body, they tailor the pressure to what your body requires
using their thumbs, palms and elbows. You will feel relaxed
as deep tension is released from your body and your energy
begins to flow freely. This activates your body’s healing
power.
